Our office

Where does credit repair in New Orleans happen with us?

Most of it happens at our New Orleans office (address and map on this page) and over the phone from there. You can call 504-414-4087 to talk first, then decide whether to come in. The work itself is paperwork: reports, letters, bureau responses. That means a client who never visits gets the same review and the same follow-up as one who does.

The ZIP code around our office, 70122, gives a small local picture. In 2025 the CFPB received 1,250 complaints about credit reporting from consumers there, plus 84 about debt collection. The single largest issue, named in 783 of those complaints, was incorrect information on a report. The CFPB publishes complaints without verifying them, so treat these as what people reported, not proven findings.

Consolidation or repair

Is debt consolidation the same thing as credit repair?

No, and mixing them up costs people time. Debt consolidation changes how you pay what you owe. Credit repair, as we do it, checks whether your reports describe your history correctly and challenges what does not. Credit counseling is a third option, built around a budget and sometimes a repayment plan. Here is how the three compare.

OptionWhat it changesWhat it leaves alone
Debt consolidationThe number of payments and possibly the interest rateErrors already on your reports
Credit counselingYour budget, and sometimes how creditors are repaidWrong entries the bureaus are reporting
Credit report disputesEntries that are inaccurate, incomplete or unverifiableAccurate, current, verifiable history

Someone carrying a wrong collection into a consolidation application may be quoted a worse rate than their real history deserves. Fixing the record first can matter. If a budget is the real problem, our page on why credit counseling can matter explains that path honestly.

The local numbers

Why do late payments weigh on so many New Orleans reports?

Housing costs take a large share of income here. Nearly six in ten renters spend 30% or more of their income on rent, and the city's poverty rate sits above one in five residents. When a month runs short, a utility bill or a card payment is often what slips. Those slips become late marks and, sometimes, collections.

Example: a renter falls behind on an electric bill during a stretch without work. The utility sells the debt, and two collectors report it, each with a different balance. The late payment to the utility is accurate and stays. The second collection listing the same debt is a duplicate, and that is the entry a dispute would target. This is a made-up case; results depend on what the bureaus find.

Our checklist

What we check first on a New Orleans report

  1. The same debt listed twice. Original creditor and collector both showing a balance, or two collectors at once.
  2. Balances after payment. Accounts you settled or paid that still report money owed.
  3. The delinquency date. The seven-year reporting clock runs from 180 days after the first missed payment, and it must match across bureaus.
  4. Accounts and inquiries you do not recognize. Improper use of a report was the second most common complaint in Louisiana last year.
  5. How earlier disputes were answered. A response that ignored your documents can be challenged again with them attached.

Statewide, Louisiana consumers sent the CFPB 117,615 credit reporting complaints and 6,654 debt collection complaints in 2025; 27,154 cited improper use of a report. Our credit report review page shows how we lay out each account on paper.

Straight talk

What we will not do, and what you can do without us

We will not dispute a debt you have told us is yours and correctly reported, and we will not suggest a new identity number or a false identity theft report. Those moves are illegal, and the FTC lists them as signs of a scam. We also will not promise a result, because the bureaus and creditors decide each dispute.

You can do every part of this yourself. The FTC says disputing mistakes or outdated items is free, and you can pull your report from each bureau once a week at no charge. A bureau generally has 30 days to investigate a dispute. If you hire any credit repair company, federal law gives you three business days to cancel. More on that is on your rights under federal credit law.

Beyond the city

Do you help people outside New Orleans?

Yes. Because disputes run through national bureaus, we work by phone with clients well beyond the parish line. Our credit repair page for Houston covers a city about 327 miles west, and the Memphis credit repair page covers one about 349 miles north. Every city we serve is on our locations list.

Questions

New Orleans credit questions, answered

Can I meet someone at the New Orleans office?

Yes, by appointment. Call the number on this page and we will set a time at our New Orleans office, whose address and map are shown above. Many clients still prefer to start by phone, because the first step is simply pulling your three reports and reading them together, and that works just as well over a call.

Will consolidating my debt fix errors on my report?

No. A consolidation loan pays off old balances with a new one, but it does nothing about a wrong late payment, a duplicated collection or an account that is not yours. Those errors stay until someone disputes them with the bureau or the company that reported them. Consolidation and disputes solve different problems, and some people need both.

I live in Metairie. Can I still work with your team?

Yes. Clients in Metairie and across the New Orleans area work with us the same way city residents do: a phone consultation first, then documents shared by email or upload, then disputes if you choose to sign up. Your reports are national files, so where you live in the metro does not change how a dispute is handled.

How do I know if a collection is too old to be reported?

Look for the date the original account first went delinquent. Federal law generally bars a collection from being reported more than seven years after a 180-day period that starts on that date. We compare that date across all three bureaus, because a reset or mismatched date is a common reason a collection appears to linger past its time.

Does a repaid collection come off my report automatically?

Not usually. Paying an accurate collection changes its status to paid, but the account itself can stay for the rest of its reporting period. What should change is the balance. A paid collection still showing money owed, or still listed as open, is incorrect information, and that kind of mismatch is something we dispute.

What happens on the first call with your New Orleans team?

We ask what you are working toward, such as renting, a car or a lower interest rate, then walk through how to pull your free reports. Next we sort what we see into likely errors and accurate history. You leave with a written summary and no obligation; nobody is enrolled during that call.

Start with what is actually on your reports

The first conversation is free. We sort each account into possibly wrong, possibly unverifiable and accurate, and explain your options, including the free ones.

Not sure what your credit reports say?

A consultation costs nothing and commits you to nothing. We read the reports with you, point out entries that look wrong or unverifiable, and tell you which steps you can take on your own.
