Credit repair, credit counseling or a credit advisor in Omaha: which do you need?
You need credit repair when the report itself is wrong, and counseling when the report is right but the budget is not working. Searches that lead here mix the two: credit advisors, credit counseling, credit score specialists. The titles overlap, so ask anyone you call one question first. Are you fixing my record, or my payment plan?
Credit Professional Services does the first job. We are a credit repair company, not a nonprofit counseling agency, and we are not tied to any Omaha organization with a similar name. We work with Omaha residents entirely by phone; there is no office in the city. A free consultation at 832-344-9402 tells you which path your reports point to. Our page on credit professionals and what they do lays out the roles in more detail.
Why do so many Omaha clients start with a refinance in mind?
Because Omaha is a city of owners in older houses. About 57.4% of occupied homes are owner-occupied, the median home was built in 1973, and the median value is $245,500. Many owners have lived in place for years and are now looking at a refinance or a home equity loan for repairs. Each of those applications puts the credit report back in front of a lender.

Long-held mortgages pick up quirks. Servicers change. Old accounts get closed and sometimes reported oddly. None of it matters until a lender looks, and then all of it does.
What do we check first for an Omaha homeowner?
We check the mortgage line, then everything that could weigh on the new loan's terms.
- The mortgage payment history, month by month, especially around any change of servicer.
- Old mortgages from a prior home or refinance, which should show as paid and closed, not open.
- Revolving balances and limits, because a missing limit can make a card look maxed.
- Any collection, with its original delinquency date; the seven-year clock starts 180 days after that date.
- Hard inquiries from lenders you did not apply with.
Example: an Omaha owner's loan moves to a new servicer, and the first payment goes to the old one by habit. The old servicer forwards it, but the new one reports that month 30 days late. A bank record of the payment date supports a dispute. Illustrative only; no outcome is implied.
What protections does federal law give you?
It gives you the right to dispute for free and the right to walk away from a credit repair contract. Any bureau must reinvestigate a dispute within 30 days, and the company that supplied the data must investigate as well. A credit repair organization cannot take payment for a service before the service is fully performed, and you can cancel within three business days of signing.
Accurate, current and verifiable information is not something anyone has a right to have taken off a report. Negative items generally age off after seven years, and bankruptcy after 10. Read more on our your rights page or see when counseling is the better call.
What we will not do. We will not present ourselves as a counseling nonprofit or borrow another organization's name. We will not dispute a mortgage late you agree happened, and we will not suggest a refinance application leave anything out. When a report is accurate, the honest advice is to keep paying on time and let time work, and that is the advice we give.
What do Nebraska credit complaints show?
They show mistakes are the main concern, as everywhere. The CFPB received 6,346 credit reporting complaints and 572 debt collection complaints from Nebraska consumers in 2025. Of the reporting complaints, 3,830 were about incorrect information on a report. The agency records these complaints without verifying them.

Questions from Omaha homeowners and renters
Are you the same as a credit advisors organization in Omaha?
No. Credit Professional Services is a credit repair company that works with Omaha residents by phone, and we are not connected to any Omaha counseling or advisory organization with a similar name. If you were looking for a specific nonprofit, contact it directly. If you want your reports read for errors, we can help with that.
What does a credit score specialist do that I cannot?
Legally, nothing you cannot do yourself. The FTC says anything a credit repair company can do legally, you can do for little or no cost. What our staff add is time and practice: reading three reports line by line, matching dates to your records, writing disputes, and explaining what each bureau sends back.
Should I check my credit before refinancing my Omaha house?
Yes, ideally several weeks before you apply. A refinance lender reads your report much as the original lender did, and a mortgage marked late in error or a stray collection can change the terms offered. Pulling your free reports early leaves time for a bureau to finish a 30-day investigation before the application.
Is credit counseling in Omaha a better fit than credit repair?
It depends on what the reports show. If they are accurate and the problem is monthly debt payments, a budget or repayment plan through a counselor may help more than any dispute. If they contain mistakes, a dispute is the tool. We tell you honestly which situation you are in during the free consultation.
My mortgage servicer changed. Could that cause an error?
It can. When servicing moves, the old servicer should report the account as transferred and the new servicer should pick up the payment history. A payment sent to the old company during the switch is sometimes reported late by mistake. Your payment records from that month are what a dispute would rely on.
Will I sign a contract on the phone?
No. The free consultation is just a conversation, and nobody is enrolled by phone. If you decide to hire us, you get a written contract plus a separate written statement of your rights under federal law, and you may cancel within three business days of signing for any reason, without charge.
Start with what is actually on your reports
The first conversation is free. We sort each account into possibly wrong, possibly unverifiable and accurate, and explain your options, including the free ones.
Not sure what your credit reports say?
A consultation costs nothing and commits you to nothing. We read the reports with you, point out entries that look wrong or unverifiable, and tell you which steps you can take on your own.
