Chicago, by phone

How does credit repair in Chicago work without a local office?

All of it happens on the phone. We have no Chicago office, and we do not need one to read a credit report. Call 832-344-9402 with your Equifax, Experian and TransUnion reports open, and we go through them in one sitting. The call is free. Nobody is enrolled by phone, and you can stop after the first conversation.

The review sorts every account into three piles. Possibly wrong. Possibly unverifiable. Accurate. Only the first two are ever disputed.

Car-free households

Why does a first car loan bring so many Chicago callers to us?

Because more than a quarter of Chicago households have never needed one. Census estimates put the share of households with no vehicle at 26.6%. People who commute by train or bus can go years without an auto loan, so when a new job or a move makes a car necessary, their file holds fewer accounts than a lender would like to see.

A thin file magnifies mistakes. On a report with twenty accounts, one wrong late mark is noise. On a report with four, it can decide the rate.

Before the dealership

What we check first before a Chicago auto loan application

  1. That every open card shows the right limit, since a missing limit makes your balance look like maxed-out use.
  2. That no account belonging to a relative with a similar name has been merged into your file.
  3. That any old phone, utility or parking-related collection reports the correct first delinquency date.
  4. That the inquiry list holds only applications you made.

Example: A rider who has taken the train for nine years has two credit cards and a student loan. One card reports a $2,000 balance but no limit at TransUnion, so that bureau treats it as fully used. Asking the card issuer to report the real $6,000 limit is a correction of incomplete data, not a removal. Hypothetical only; no result is promised.

Older homes

Chicago homeowners and the mortgage lines on a report

Chicago's housing is old. Half of its homes were built in 1953 or earlier, and many owners have lived in theirs long enough to refinance once or twice. Each refinance should close the previous mortgage on the report. Sometimes it does not, and the old loan keeps reporting as open with a balance.

With a median home value of $334,100, the rate on a new loan matters in real dollars. We read every mortgage line against the payoff letter from the prior lender. A stale open mortgage is a correction worth asking for before any application.

Illinois complaints

How often do Illinois residents report credit report errors?

Often. Illinois consumers sent the CFPB 210,629 credit reporting complaints in 2025, plus 10,417 about debt collection. The largest group, 116,753, concerned incorrect information on a report. The CFPB publishes these but does not verify them, so read the numbers as a sign of how many people raise the issue, not as findings.

You must dispute with the bureau first before the CFPB will take a complaint about a report. Our page on your federal credit reporting rights lays out the order.

Our limits

What we will not do for Chicago callers

We will not push a dispute against a car payment, card or mortgage you know is correct. We will not invent hardship stories, file false identity theft claims, or tell you to stay away from the bureaus. We are paid only after the work is done, and any agreement can be canceled within 3 business days. If you would rather handle it yourself, we will say how. It is free.

If you are starting from almost nothing, our guide on building credit from scratch applies anywhere, and our explainer on credit building cards covers secured cards. Chicago FAQ

What Chicago callers ask before a review

Do Chicago credit repair companies need to see me in person?

We do not. Credit Professional Services has no office in Chicago, and every consultation is a phone call. You open your reports, we read them with you, and any agreement is sent in writing afterward. Federal law requires that your rights be given to you in a written statement, kept separate from any contract.

I have never had a car loan. Will a Chicago auto lender still approve me?

Many lenders look at more than auto history. They weigh on-time payments on cards, student loans and other accounts, plus how much of your available credit you use. A short file is not a bad file. The risk is an error on it, because with few accounts, one wrong late payment carries more weight.

What does an Illinois credit services company do that I cannot?

Nothing you are barred from doing. The FTC says anything a credit repair company can do legally, you can do yourself for little or no cost. People hire help for the time it saves and for a second reader who knows where reporting mistakes tend to sit. You choose which route fits.

Can a closed Chicago account still hurt my report?

A closed account with a clean history usually helps, since it adds age and on-time payments. A closed account that went to collection can be reported for seven years, counted from 180 days after the delinquency that led to it. We check that the dates and the closed status are recorded the same way at each bureau.

How often can I check my reports while a Chicago dispute is open?

Each of the three bureaus now lets you check your report free once a week. That makes it easy to see when a disputed line changes. Bureaus generally have 30 days to finish an investigation, so a weekly look across that window is plenty. Keep the dispute confirmation numbers together with each weekly copy.

What if I own an older Chicago home and want to refinance?

Pull your reports before you apply, not after. Old mortgages sometimes still show open after a past refinance, and a lender reading two mortgages on one house will ask questions. We compare every mortgage line with your payoff and closing papers so you can correct a stale entry before the lender sees it.
